Viewers of A Very British Hotel were left baffled on Tuesday night after they were convinced the show was a parody of hit comedy The Office.

The Channel 4 new show, titled A Very British Hotel Chain: Inside Best Western, goes behind the scenes at its headquarters in York, as well as visiting hotels up and down the country.

During the first episode, we were introduced to Best Western’s recently hired and youngest-ever CEO, Rob Paterson as he goes about rejuvenating the brand, as well as hotel inspector Alistair.

Although during the show, viewers couldn’t help but spot some similarities to Ricky Gervais’ sitcom The Office.

One even described it as the ‘funniest programme of lockdown’.

Taking to social media to praise the show, one viewer tweeted: ‘This is actually brilliant. Very much like The Office.’

While one added: ‘This is a bit like The Office, isn’t it!’

In Tuesday night’s instalment, Best Western’s director of business development, Terii, also tried to secure chef Marco Pierre White as the company’s first celebrity hotelier – and she succeeds.

Marco Pierre White appears in A Very British Hotel Chain: Inside Best Western on Channel 4 at 9pm.

Who was Brendan Brady in Hollyoaks?

Published

Trip down memory lane (Picture: Lime Pictures)

Brendan Brady (Emmett J Scanlan) is coming back to the small screen this week, as Hollyoaks Favourites airs episodes featuring the iconic character.

Hollyoaks Favourites are classic epsiodes of the soap being re-run because the coronavirus pandemic has halted production of the soap.

While new episodes are being shown less frequently, to make the new episodes last as long as possible, old episodes are being shown on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays on E4 to tide us over in the meantime.

It’s because of this that we’ll be seeing Brendan Brady on our tellies once again.

For any soap fans out there who need a refresher, here’s what you need to know about Brendan before the epsiodes air.

Who was Brendan Brady in Hollyoaks?

Brendan Brady and his iconic horseshoe moustache first appeared on Hollyoaks in 2010.

Brendan is the brother of Cheryl Brady (Bronagh Waugh) – in some of his first scenes, he told Cheryl he left his cheating wife back in Ireland after finding her in bed with another man.

His on-again-off-again relationship with Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) led to fans dubbing them Stendan. Even with their ups and severe downs, Stendan still has a loyal fanbase.

Played by Emmett J Scanlan, Brendan started out as something of a villain on the show, but by his 2013 exit, viewers saw him as a tragic bad boy with his heart ultimately in the right place despite his traumatic past.

In the run-up to his exit, Brendan’s foul father Seamus attempted to beat and sexually abuse Brendan just like he’d done in the past.

However Seamus was stopped by Cheryl, who saved her brother by shooting and killing the abuser.

Brendan, who seemed to have a death wish at this point, decided to save Cheryl and take the blame for the crime.

He pulled an unloaded gun on the police, who wasted no time in shooting him.

Even though Brendan survived, he was taken to prison and thus exited the soap.

Hollyoaks spoilers: Shock exit for Misbah as she says goodbye

Misbah Maalik (Harvey Virdi) bid adieu to the eponymous village of Hollyoaks and all of her loved ones in it during tonight’s episode, as she headed off on a secondment.

The much-loved character has been debating whether or not she should leave her loved ones behind for a job opportunity which is too good to miss out on.

However, some wise words from Tom (Ellis Hollins) reminded her that — in spite of her children having grown up — they’ll always need her, and she’ll always be their mum.

Au revoir, Misbah! (Picture: Lime Pictures)

Misbah realised that the young man was right, and — after congratulating Yazz (Haeisha Mistry) on finding a good man in Tom — she started packing.

In spite of her certainty in leaving, she exhibited a little bit of doubt during tonight’s instalment, as she lost her train ticket.

In hilarious scenes, all of her loved ones got onto their hands and knees and seartched for the missing item — that is, until Misbah realised it had been in her bag all along. Oops!

Afterwards, she got into the taxi and bid adieu to all of those around her, before leaving the village in her rear-view mirror.

However, fear not, as this is not the last we’ve seen of Misbah, as the New Year’s flash-forward episode revealed that she is back in the village later in the year — and befriends Marnie (Lysette Anthony) in the process — so we’ll see her soon!

Hollyoaks continues Monday 1 June at 7pm on E4. Hollyoaks Favourites resumes tomorrow at 7pm on E4, and find out which classic instalments are on offer next week here.

An elderly woman sobbed on tonight’s episode of Old, Alone And Stuck At Home as she revealed her cancer treatment had been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Sally was diagnosed with breast cancer one week before the country went into lockdown, but with the NHS throwing everything at fighting Covid-19, her operation was scrapped.

Addressing the devastating news in a video recorded from her home, Sally fought back tears.

‘You never know what’s happening inside your own body, do you?’ she said. ‘I have to put up with this and I’m scared it’s going to spread.

‘If the virus doesn’t get me would the cancer get me?’

‘I really don’t know how much time I’ve got left,’ she confessed. ‘The prospect of four long months in iso is not a very exciting one.’

Viewers were devastated by the emotional scenes at hand, with one writing: ‘It breaks my heart that there are so many older people who are stuck at home alone and feeling lonely right now.

‘I really cannot imagine what it must feel like, so heartbreaking. I love that @Channel4 is raising awareness of this!’
