Coronation Street spoilers: Lucy Fallon to return as Bethany Platt?

Published

We last saw Lucy Fallon on our screens as Bethany Platt at the start of the year as she made her own way in the world after her relationship with grieving Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) fell apart.

But the actress has always said from the start that she was not closing the door on Coronation Street and will always want to go back to where she calls home – and she has now reiterated that she will return ‘1000’ times over.

That works for us!

Lucy told The Sun: ‘I’m not under any illusion that I’m going to be working forever and all these parts are going to come to me, but I spoke to a few people and they gave me the confidence to try.

‘I’m very conscious of the fact that I don’t want it to sound like I see going back to Corrie as a back-up – that’s absolutely not how it is. I absolutely love that show and I would do it a thousand times over and I obviously would 100% go back there in future if they will have me.

‘It’s just about me spreading my wings in a way and trying to live with no regrets. Corrie is the only part I’ve ever auditioned for and I was very lucky to get it, but I know that’s not always going to happen.’

Of course in a lockdown environment, the audition process is a very different ball game, with theatres shut down and television only just starting to cautiously return to production under social distancing regulations.

But Lucy is optimistic that she can keep trying for roles and get a feel for what’s out there beyond Corrie.

She smiled: ‘At the moment auditions are all being done remotely so I’ve done a few self-tapes, including one today, and I’ve read for a new comedy which is still in the pipeline, so I’m hoping something will work out!’

Given how witty Lucy is in real life, we have no doubt that she will be right at home in a comedy. Sign her up we say!

Coronation Street spoilers: Asha takes down teen sex shamer Corey

Coronation Street fans are going to find themselves cheering for Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey) when she finds the courage to stand up to Corey and shoot him down for his treatment of her and his attitude towards women.

Asha really liked Corey and she felt she could only validate herself by complying to his request that she goes topless on camera for him. As fans know, this led to the footage and pictures being shared online and on a porn site, leaving Asha in pieces.

Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) has been trying his best to deal with the situation but has so far either thrown anger at it by ranting at teachers and police or money in the form of a reputation management company.

His next step to try and protect Asha is to move her and Aadi to Oakhill but on the first day there, Asha is gutted when she finds herself being sniggered at and feels there is no escape from the taunting around what happened to her.

She breaks down and flees from the school and Nina (Mollie Gallagher) steps in to give her a much needed pep talk.

When Asha arrives home, a harassed Dev is furious with her but Nina convinces him to go easy on her, giving all that she has been through.

Later, Asha spots Corey with his friends and, taking control of the situation that has so far been controlling her, she marches up to him and shames him for what he did to her before walking confidently away.

Dev watches on, proud of his daughter – can he finally put his fears about how she can cope to rest?

And how will Corey react?

Coronation Street’s Catherine Tyldesley breaks down over ‘dark days’

Catherine Tyldesley has shared an honest and raw photo of herself crying as she opened up about her recent ‘dark days’.

The actress struggled when her mum was taken into intensive care during a ‘horrendous’ month.

Her mum is now fine and recovering at home, but understandably Catherine was so worried about her at the time that she was unable to parent her five-year-old son Alfie, which made her feel ‘shame’.

Catherine thanked her husband for being her ‘greatest support’ and sent her well wishes to people who ‘don’t have anyone’.

Her emotional message was posted alongside a picture of herself in tears, and encouraged her followers to talk to someone if they were struggling.

The former soap star was part of a mental health panel alongside surgeon and speaker Dr Jonquille Chantrey.

The 36-year-old, who played Eva Price on the long-running ITV soap, said: ‘Lockdown has brought up many emotions for many people. Some days have been incredibly hard. Dark. Unworkable.

‘When my mum was in ICU I could barely function. It seemed all I could do was cry. I couldn’t parent. My inner child simply craved my mums touch…Thus I felt shame/mum guilt for not being able to “mother” my own son.

‘I’m lucky- I have a brilliant hands- on husband who has been the greatest support to us. Some people don’t have anyone. I can’t bare to imagine that.

‘Teamed with a huge change in my hormonal balance – last month was nothing short of horrendous. It’s massively important to me that we all #TALK.’

Earlier this month, the star’s mum was rushed to hospital in need of emergency surgery.

She also shared that her grandfather remains in hospital ‘fighting for his life’.

Coronation Street spoilers: James shames homophobic footballer teammate

Published

James Bailey (Nathan George) is set to find comfort and confidence in his recent reunion with dad Ed (Trevor Michael Georges) in Coronation Street  when he turns the tables on a homophobe in the football locker room.

James hit rock bottom and left the squad after one of the fans hurled homophobic abuse – and with Ed unable to accept his son’s sexuality, James didn’t feel backed up.

Ed then experienced racism at the hands of bistro manager Don and it took him back to what he had been through in the past. After initially shrugging it off, Ed found the strength to stand up to Dom and put him in his place over his disgusting bigotry.

Ed’s family were proud of him but things with James remained unresolved. Ed saw that he was making his own son feel the same way as discriminatory racists made him feel and he apologised to him, telling him that he is proud of him and encouraging him to return to football – why should he have to give up on his dream due to a  few close minded people?

Ray calls at the Baileys and reveals he’s sacked Don. James returns to training as Michael assures him that the family is right behind him whatever he decides.

In the changing room, one of the players makes a dig at James’s sexuality. James makes a joke out of it and the other players laugh with him and James is pleased to have made the idiot look a fool and get the support of his teammates.

Tommy Orpington assures James he did the right thing coming out and he has the full support of his team mates. James worries that the manager might not see it that way.

As he then gets a phone call to see if he has been picked for the team, will his fears prove right? Or will he be back doing what he loves?
