Now, People with Digilocker won’t need to carry Original Documents for Passport Services.
- Users will no longer be required to carry the original documents
- This Integration makes it easy to submit Passport documents.
- It will be easy to retrieve passports for the citizens.
On Friday, While Inaugurating the “DigiLocker” platform for the “Passport Seva Programme”, Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan launched a new scheme.
This is the Integration of Passport services with Digilocker. Now, the applicant can leverage the DigiLocker platform while applying for passport-related services
Muraleedharan’s statement during Inauguration:
“As a next step, we are working on the idea of a passport to be included as one of the documents in DigiLocker.
Moving forward, I am confident that this will help the citizens to retrieve the passport whenever required
In case of loss of passport and while reissuing, this facility will be of great help.”
In simple words. From now, Citizens have to submit their documents in Paperless mode to get any Passport-related services. It will be applicable all over India.
How it works:
Under the new scheme, The applicant who wants to apply for a Passport will be provided a link for the uploading of Documents in the Digilocker.
This would enable citizens to submit various documents required for Passport Services through DigiLocker in a paperless mode.
The Minister also pointed out that:
“In case of loss of passport and while reissuance, this facility will be of great help.”
It will make it easy for the citizens to retrieve the passport whenever required
Muraleedharan also said that in the coming years we are planning to launch biometric passports. Airports will be equipped with automatic e-passport gates. It will help improve immigration processes at airports
Realizing the importance of Digital India, Muraleedharan said:
“I welcome all the citizens to use the DigiLocker facility and make the passport application process paperless,”
For the ease of people the government has integrated 150 Indian missions and posts in foreign countries into the Passport Seva Project. Around 7 crore passports are issued through Passport Seva project.
