Koo microblogging platform now among top free apps in India

Koo gained traction after the Indian government locked horns with Twitter over the suspension of a few accounts.

On Tuesday, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal shared an invite with his followers on Twitter to join a new microblogging social media site called Koo. Soon after that, several ministers and ministries, as well as the others, shared invites to join Koo.

Koo, which has very many similarities with Twitter. Now it has over three million users in such a short span. Koo has a yellow bird as its logo in contrast to the bluebird of Twitter.

Prominent personalities including Sadhguru, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Anil Kumble, Javagal Srinath, etc have migrated to Koo to express their opinion. Koo has gained popularity after the Indian government locked horns with Twitter over the suspension of a few accounts.

Koo app is available for download on both Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

A security researcher said that the app shares the personal information of users including phone number, email id, gender, marital status. But Koo said that all the allegations by the security researcher were false as no personal data was leaked.

 “Users enter their profile data on the app to be shared with others on the platform. That’s what’s displayed everywhere across the platform. While there have been false allegations of a data leak, it’s just commonly called the public profile page for all users to view!”

Koo even earned popularity when Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself spoke in favor of the homemade app and encouraged Indians to use it.
