Mnecraft Earth shutting down

Minecraft Earth is an augmented reality sandbox game developed by Mojang Studios and published by Xbox Game Studios. A spin-off of the video game Minecraft, it was first announced in May 2019, and is available on Android and iOS. The game is free-to-play, and was first released in early access on 17 October 2019. Sadly, Minecraft Earth is shutting down on June 30, 2020.

Why is Minecraft Earth shutting down ?

As per the report published by the company, “Minecraft Earth was designed around free movement and collaborative play – two things that have become near impossible in the current global situation. As a result, we have made the difficult decision to re-allocate our resources to other areas that provide value to the Minecraft community and to end support for Minecraft Earth in June 2021.”

Can you still play ?

Yes, the company has announced that the game will be taken off from the servers on June 30. So, technically from 1 July, the game will not be available to either play or download.

The officials said,”On June 30, we will discontinue all content and service support for the game. This means that we will stop all development, and after that date, you will be unable to download or play Minecraft Earth anymore. On July 1, we will delete any Minecraft Earth player data unrelated to Character Creator and Minecoin entitlements. For more information on the Minecraft Earth sunset process, you can check out the FAQ page.”

What will happen to your purchases ?

All players with paid ruby balances will be granted Minecoins, which you can use on the Minecraft Marketplace to purchase skin and texture packs, maps, and even minigames. Plus, if you’ve ever made a purchase in Minecraft Earth, you will receive a free copy of Minecraft (the Bedrock version) so you can get a fresh start while grabbing some goodies from the Marketplace!

Latest update of Minecraft Earth version

The company wants its players to have as much fun as possible and hence have uploaded the last update of the game.

While making it memorable for the gamers, the company is:

  • Removing real-money transactions

  • Drastically reducing ruby costs

  • Including all completed, unreleased content currently in our pipeline

  • Reducing time requirements for crafting and smelting

  • Replacing unused crafting & smelting boosts with radius boosts of the same level

  • Granting a set of Character Creator items to players who sign in between January 5 and June 30

As per the company, it was a very tough decision to take. The officials were extremely thankful to the team and the players for giving in so much to the game.

They said,”we want to take a moment to thank all of the players and creators that are bringing new adventures, mobs, and free in-game items for the community to enjoy while we finalize our timeline for sunsetting the game. Your feedback and creations brought this game to an entirely different level, from the regular build challenges you absolutely smashed to the incredible builds you shared on social media. We’re eternally grateful for the amazing talent in the Minecraft community. This was not an easy decision, and we’re doing everything we can to make sure you get the most out of Minecraft Earth before it sunsets.”
