After the US President Donald Trump warned of shutting down the social networking app TikTok, the technology giant Microsoft has stopped the ongoing negotiations with its maker BiteDance to buy it (TikTok). This has eclipsed TikTok’s return to India again.
Trump told reporters on Friday that he was planning to shut down TikTok, a potential rival to the US-operated social networking app YouTube and Facebook. He also said in the meantime that the government is considering other options besides closing TikTok.
The Wall Street Journal quoted information sources on the matter on Saturday as saying that Bytdance and Microsoft were waiting for the status quo to be clarified regarding future action on TikTok. According to the Journal, after this statement of the US President, TikTok has also said to create ten thousand jobs in America during the next three years.
Prior to Trump’s statement, negotiations between Microsoft and ByteDance for the purchase of TikTok were in the final stages and the deal was expected to be in place by Monday. Earlier in July, Foreign Minister Mike Pompeo said that the government was considering banning TikTok in view of privacy violations, although TikTok says it had secure consumer data and that it would be with Chinese officials Is not shared.
Meanwhile, China has asked the US to stop putting pressure on Chinese companies through the government machinery.
